We had never heard of the 4L Trophy until we passed what seemed to be an unusually large number of Renault 4s travelling in the opposite direction. Unusually large as in 2400. We became a little suspicious….
We decided to ask what was going on. The 4L Trophy is a student rally round Morocco from the top to the desert and back up. The compulsory accessory is a garishly bright Renault 4, preferable with a horn that plays a tune. Each car aims to deliver 50kg of school equipment to kids around Morocco. The winner of each stage is the car which drives the least number of kilometres.
It’s quite something else seeing a trail of diddy cars as they make their way past the sand dunes.
I wanted to add this rally to my bucket list, but my kind son pointed out I was too old. I will need to find another one.
