Thanks to my friend, Carolyn, I have begun to appreciate the nutritional benefits of using a slow cooker. The top Christmas/New Year recipe so far is MULLED WINE. Gluwein, vin chaud, mulled wine, it’s what makes an evening sitting round the fire on a cold winter’s evening complete.
A slow cooker (ours is a classy 70s brown and orange and at other times of the year is sometimes used for real food)
1 bottle red wine
A few glugs orange juice (optional)
A splash of brandy (optional)
2 sticks of cinnamon
A couple of tablespoons of sugar (or to taste)
An orange cut into small wedges (optional)
Add ingredients to slow cooker. Switch on to low in the afternoon. Ready in the evening.
